This marks the first recall of the season for Jordan, a 23-year-old who played in his first AHL All-Star game and played his first five NHL games with Carolina last season. It is also the first time the Hurricanes have recalled a defenseman all season with the exception of Ryan Murphy returning from his one-month stint with Charlotte last week.
Now in his fourth professional season and fourth with the Checkers, Jordan has 15 points (3g, 12a) in 53 games, including assists in four straight games from March 1-7. He went scoreless during last year’s stint with the Hurricanes that took place in February.
Hurricanes defensemen Justin Faulk and John-Michael Liles have recently suffered injuries and will reportedly not play on Tuesday. The team still had six healthy defensemen at Monday’s practice.
The Checkers still have six defensemen available to play in Wednesday’s game against the Texas Stars, the last of a franchise-record, 10-game road swing, if Jordan does not return by then. After being pressed into action on Friday due to Murphy’s recall and a one-game suspension to Matt Corrente, rookie Austin Levi sat out the next two games as a healthy extra but is available if required.
