Continuing a busy Friday morning, the Charlotte Checkers received Chris Terry from the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for Elias Lindholm, reversing a transaction that occurred earlier this month.
Terry, who was the Checkers’ scoring leader with 10 points (6g, 4a) in 10 games at the time of his departure, played seven NHL games with the Hurricanes, recording no points and two shootout goals in two chances, including the game-winner against Anaheim last week. He began the season with points in each of his first nine AHL games and still leads the team with six goals.
Meanwhile, Lindholm, the 18-year-old, fifth overall pick in this past summer’s NHL draft, scored three points (1g, 2a) in his first six AHL games, during which time he became the youngest player to ever play for the Checkers.
Terry’s return gave the Checkers two AHL All-Stars in a five-minute span, with his teammate on the 2012 Western Conference team, Philippe Cornet, acquired via an AHL trade that sent Adam Brace to the San Antonio Rampage. Tough Brace and Lindholm had both contributed during the Checkers’ current seven-game losing skid, one that spanned the entire period since Lindholm and Terry first switched places on Nov. 6, the recent additions could spark a team that has scored two or fewer goals in five of its last six games.
Cornet and Terry are expected to be available when the Checkers face the Rockford IceHogs for back-to-back games starting Saturday.
