The Charlotte Checkers are now accepting registrations to try out for the 2018-19 CheckMates dance team!

Those interested in trying out for the team should please fill out the form below and email [email protected] with any additional questions. Tryouts will begin Saturday, August 18 at Bojangles' Coliseum. Registration starts at 10 a.m. with auditions beginning at 11.

Those selected to boot camp following the August 18 tryout must be available on the evenings of August 20th, August 21st, and August 23rd for Boot Camp. Final auditions and team announcement will be held Monday, August 27th.

Q: What do I wear to audition?
A: Long black dance pants and a middrif top in Checkers colors. Dance shoes or sneakers.

Q: If I were to make the team, when are rehearsals?
A: Our rehearsals are on Tuesday and Thursday evenings throughout the season (September-May).

Q: Do I have to know how to ice skate?
A: Basic skating is recommended. We have a skating coach on staff to help. We also encourage you to attend our free skating clinic at Xtreme Ice Center held in July. Email [email protected] for more information.

Q: What is the age requirement to audition?
A: All candidates must be 18+.

Q: Are CheckMates paid? How many hours does it require?
A: Yes, CheckMates are paid hourly for all games, appearances, and practices. It is considered a part time job with approximately 20 hours during the regular season.

Q: What does the boot camp consist of?
A: At the end of our open call auditions on August 18, we will announce boot camp candidates. Boot camp consists of dance choreography, fitness workouts, ice skating, professional interviews in our office, online voting and a final audition. Boot camp finalists will rehearse in the evenings and have their interview in our Checkers office during business hours. The team will be announced at the conclusion of the boot camp on August 27.
