The Checkers thinned out their roster a bit heading into Saturday’s rematch with Binghamton by assigning Steven Lorentz and Derek Sheppard to the ECHL’s Florida Everblades.

Lorentz has logged five points in 18 AHL games with the Checkers this season. Most recently he appeared in five straight games and picked up three points along the way before being a healthy extra for Friday’s win over the Devils. He returns to Florida where he has put up 23 points (9g, 14a) in 19 games.

Sheppard joined the team earlier this week after the Checkers lost both Jake Bean and Haydn Fleury to NHL recalls. With Bean back in Charlotte, Sheppard – who served as a healthy extra in last night’s win – now returns to Florida where he leads all team defensemen with 29 points (11g, 18a) in 45 games.
