As Charlotte’s forward corps continues to piece back together, the Checkers have assigned Steven Lorentz to the ECHL’s Florida Everblades.

This marked the rookie’s first stint with the Checkers, as Lorentz made his AHL debut on Dec. 30 in Lehigh Valley. He would then appear in both games against the Hershey Bears to close out the team’s road trip, going scoreless in his three contests.

A seventh-round pick by Carolina in 2015, Lorentz has recorded 13 points (4g, 9a) in 25 games with the Everblades this season.

After missing several key pieces over the last road trip, the Checkers’ roster is starting to fill back up. Valentin Zykov returned to game action after missing some time due to illness, while Lucas Wallmark is back with the team after an NHL stint. The one question mark that remains is Patrick Brown, who missed Sunday’s finale with an injury and was absent from Wednesday’s practice.

“He’s day-to-day, hopefully he should be ready for the weekend,” said head coach Mike Vellucci. “He’s our captain and our leader so if we can get Brownie back for this weekend it will be a plus. But if not, we’ll have to put someone else in there to cover for him. But I think he should be good to go.”
