Lorentz, Smallman and Kanzig each appeared in both preseason contests against Lehigh Valley. Smallman led the trio with a goal and an assist, while his fellow rookie Lorentz notched a goal and 17 penalty minutes and Kanzig picked up a helper and six penalty minutes. Booth stopped 20 of the 22 shots he faced in his lone preseason appearance, picking up a 5-2 win for the Checkers. In addition to those departures, Phil Di Giuseppe cleared waivers at noon and is now officially assigned to the Checkers.

The AHL also announced today that Lorentz has been assessed a one-game suspension after receiving an instigator penalty in the final five minutes of Saturday’s preseason game. He will miss the next game for which he is on an active AHL roster.
