With their extended home stand finished, the Checkers have assigned forward Spencer Smallman and netminder Callum Booth to the ECHL’s Florida Everblades.

Smallman has yet to make his pro debut after suffering an injury prior to the Everblades’ season opener. After rehabbing in Charlotte over the last few months, the rookie forward has been cleared to return to action, which he will do with Florida.

After entering a road contest earlier this month in relief, Booth made his first AHL start yesterday against the Syracuse Crunch, making 25 saves in a losing effort. Having spent much of this month in Charlotte working with the Checkers’ coaches, this move to return the rookie netminder to the ECHL has been a part of the plan all along.

“I thought he played well,” said head coach Mike Vellucci after yesterday’s game. “We would have liked to get him the win because he had a lot of chances to score, but I thought he was solid and he made some big saves early on. It was a great opportunity to see where he is. He’ll go back to (ECHL) Florida now and have a great rest of the year.”
