The Checkers added another piece to their roster, signing veteran forward Patrick Dwyer to an AHL contract.

The 33-year-old is coming off his first season overseas, where he recorded seven assists in 33 games for Modo of the top Swedish league. Prior to that, Dwyer had been a mainstay in the Carolina organization. After spending his rookie year with the Chicago Wolves, the affiliate of the Atlanta Thrashers, who drafted him in the fourth round of the 2002 NHL Draft, Dwyer signed with Carolina and proceeded to spend the next three seasons with the Albany River Rats. The Spokane native would make the jump to the Hurricanes in 2009-10, where he would remain for six more seasons.

Dwyer, whose last AHL stint came in 2009-10 when he suited up for 23 games with Albany, has totaled 170 points (80g, 90a) over 296 games at the level.

With all of today’s transactions, the Checkers currently have 14 forwards on their roster.
