The Checkers have added a pair of depth signings to their roster, inking forward Kyle Platzer and defenseman Patrick McCarron to two-way AHL deals.

The 23-year-old Platzer split last season between the Bakersfield Condors, where he logged 15 points (8g, 7a) in 44 games, and the Wichita Thunder, where he put up 22 points (8g, 14a) in 20 games. A fourth-round selection by Edmonton in 2013, Platzer has totaled 43 points (17g, 26a) in 147 career AHL games over three full seasons with Oklahoma City and Bakersfield to go along with his 22 points in 20 ECHL games. Prior to turning pro, the Ontario native racked up 140 points (61g, 79a) in 203 OHL game over four seasons with London and Owen Sound, collecting a league title with the Knights in 2013.

McCarron, 23, joins the Checkers after spending the majority of his rookie season in the ECHL with the Toledo Walleye, where he led team blue liners with nine goals and finished with 19 points in 54 games. The Ontario native also appeared in three games for the Grand Rapids Griffins to go along with a one-game stint at the end of the 2016-17 campaign in which he recorded an assist. Prior to that, McCarron played four years at Cornell, totaling 50 points (12g, 38a) in 123 games and earning a spot on the All-Ivy League Second Team.
