The Hurricanes today acquired forward prospect Cliff Pu and three draft picks from the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for Jeff Skinner.

The 20-year-old Pu was taken by Buffalo in the third round of the 2016 draft. The Ontario native is coming off an 84-points-in-65-games OHL season split between the London Knights and the Kingston Frontenacs that landed him on the league’s Third All-Star Team. Overall, Pu racked up 210 points (80g, 130a) in 232 OHL games over four seasons with Oshawa, London and Kingston and helped the Knights capture a Memorial Cup in 2016.

Having turned 20 last month, Pu is eligible to begin his pro career in the AHL with Charlotte next season. The trade also netted Carolina a second-round pick in 2019 and third and sixth-round picks in 2020.
