The Hurricanes have recalled AHL goals leader Valentin Zykov from Charlotte.

Zykov, who earns his second NHL recall of the season, is currently on an eight-game point streak (7g, 4a) that ties the longest of his career and the longest by a Checker this season. His assist during Sunday’s 4-1 loss to Binghamton allowed him to overtake the injured Andrew Miller for the team’s scoring lead with 52 points.

Zykov’s 32 goals this season are at least five more than any other player in the league and are four away from setting a new franchise record for the most in a single season.

Zykov, who did not play during his first recall of the season earlier this month, could make his season debut at the NHL level as early as Tuesday’s home game against Edmonton. The Checkers are off until visiting Laval for back-to-back road games starting Friday.

Additionally, the Checkers have returned Callum Booth to the ECHL’s Florida Everblades. The rookie netminder backed up Alex Nedeljkovic for two games against Wilkes-Barre/Scranton last week while Jeremy Smith was out with an injury. Smith returned to action during this past weekend’s series against Binghamton.
