At the conclusion of the NHL Trade Deadline, the Hurricanes acquired Sami Vatanen from New Jersey in exchange for Janne Kuokkanen, Fredrik Claesson and a conditional fourth-round selection in the 2020 NHL Draft.

A second-round pick in 2016, Kuokkanen currently leads the Checkers in scoring with 42 points (12g, 30a) in 52 games. The 21-year-old Finn departs having logged 120 points (35g, 85a) in 160 AHL games over three seasons with Charlotte. Kuokkanen also appeared in 11 NHL games during his tenure with the organization.

Claesson, named an alternate captain at the start of the year, had 19 points (3g, 16a) in 47 games for the Checkers and a plus-15 rating that ranked fourth on the team.

The 27-year-old Swede signed with Carolina over the summer.

The Checkers return to action tomorrow in Hershey.
