Klas Dahlbeck
Having just lost one defenseman at the conclusion of his conditioning stint, the Checkers will add another as they continue their road trip through California.

Klas Dahlbeck, the latest Hurricane to join the Checkers on such an assignment, is expected to be in the lineup as the team looks to end a four-game losing skid in Stockton on Wednesday. He will take the place of Ryan Murphy, who rejoined Carolina on Monday following a two-week, seven-game stint with Charlotte. Both the Hurricanes and Checkers play three games in California this week.

Dahlbeck has three points (1g, 2a) in nine games with the Hurricanes this season, the most recent of which came on Nov. 12 as the 25-year-old Swede found himself out the outside of Carolina’s group of eight healthy defensemen. Before the Hurricanes claimed him on waivers during the preseason, Dahlbeck had split the last four campaigns between the Chicago and Arizona organizations, posting 15 points (4g, 11a) in 103 career NHL games and 52 points (15g, 37a) in 197 total AHL contests. The 6-foot-3, 207-pound blueliner also owns a career +31 rating in the AHL.

Should he play for the Checkers tonight, the occasion would mark Dahlbeck’s first AHL game since suiting up for Portland on April 19, 2015, as last season marked his first spent entirely in the NHL with Arizona. He recorded 35 points and a +21 rating in his last full AHL campaign with Rockford in 2013-14.

Dahlbeck’s addition gives the Checkers seven healthy defensemen. Josh Wesley and Kevin Raine rotated as healthy extras for the first three games of the current California trip.
