Charlotte Checkers to help kick off WSOC's School Tools
The Checkers are once again supporting WSOC’s annual School Tools program! Along with other area sports teams, Checkers staff and Chubby will be on the corner of Trade and Tryon for the program’s uptown kickoff event from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Friday, August 1, to see who can collect the most school supplies for Communities in Schools and Classroom Central.

The most commonly needed school supplies are:
  • Pencils
  • Pens
  • Crayons
  • Markers
  • Colored pencils
  • Composition books
  • Single subject notebooks
  • Loose-leaf paper
  • 1 pocket folders
  • Rulers
  • Erasers
  • Glue sticks
The purpose of WSOC’s School Tools program is to provide basic school supplies to thousands of students in need. With almost 260,000 children listed as Economically Disadvantaged, these supplies are given to those students in Kindergarten through 12th grade in over 22 participating counties. Serving more than three million children since 1997, this community initiative has raised over $8,000,000 worth of school supplies to date, assisting more than 120,000 students last year alone.
