Mike Lappan

Vice President of Communications and Outreach

Mike Lappan
Lappan joined the Checkers in 2009 and is responsible for overseeing all team communication and planning and executing community outreach programs and appearances. Lappan was awarded the 2011-12 Ken McKenzie Award for outstanding contribution to the promotion of an AHL team.

From 2006-2008, he was the coordinator of hockey operations for the ECHL league office and also worked with Checkers’ COO Tera Black with the San Diego Gulls, formerly of the ECHL, during the 2005-06 season.

Favorite pro/college sports team Detroit Red Wings, Toronto Blue Jays, Cleveland Browns
Favorite type of music Blues, classic rock, hip hop, electronic, big band, jazz, hard rock. If I had to pick one, it'd be the blues.
Favorite band Toss-up between the Tragically Hip, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin and Big Mama Thornton
Favorite book The Count of Monte Cristo and Gangster by Lorenzo Carcaterra
Fun fact I was once picked up by a train while hitchhiking. I've been a mile underground (5,200 feet to be exact). Also suited up for one ECHL game with the San Diego Gulls. Was promptly released the next morning.
