Checkers forwards Warren Foegele and Valentin Zykov went toe-to-toe with the best in the league Monday night at the 2018 AHL All-Star Classic.

The duo led their Atlantic Division squad and tied for second overall in the event with four assists each, as well as matching Hershey’s Chris Bourque for the team scoring lead with four points.

The event consisted of a round robin tournament that saw the Atlantic Division squad defeat Charlotte’s former home of the Central Division 5-2 and then fall to the Pacific Division 4-3. That set up a scenario where the Atlantic’s final tilt against the North Division would see the winner advance to the championship game. The Atlantic built a 3-0 lead early in the second half of play, but a furious comeback by the North was capped off by a last-minute go-ahead goal to send them to the final, where they would defeat the Pacific and claim the AHL All-Star Classic title.

The focus now shifts back to the regular season for the Checkers, who head into a three-in-three road trip this weekend starting Friday in Lehigh Valley.
