The Hurricanes bolstered their forward corps by signing veteran forward Brian Gibbons to a one-year, two-way contract on Thursday.
The 31-year-old just wrapped up his eighth pro season, splitting the year between Anaheim, where he logged five points (2g, 3a) in 44 games, and Ottawa, where he had 14 points (6g, 8a) in 20 games. Over his career Gibbons has appeared in 189 NHL games for Pittsburgh, Columbus, New Jersey, Anaheim and Ottawa, notching 67 points (25g, 42a) along the way.
Gibbons, a native of Massachusetts, has also played 329 AHL games over his career with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Springfield, Hartford and Albany, with his most recent action coming for the Devils in 2016-17. The five-foot-eight winger has hit the 30-point mark in four of his six AHL campaigns, totaling 160 points (55g, 105a) all together. Gibbons – an undrafted product of Boston College, where he won two National Championships – was also named to the 2013-14 AHL All-Star Game.
