With Alex Nedeljkovic currently in the NHL, the Checkers have recalled Jeremy Helvig from the ECHL’s Florida Everblades.

The 21-year-old had a stellar rookie campaign with the Everblades, going 27-9-1 to tie for third in the league in wins and posting the ECHL’s third-best goals-against average. Helvig, who helped lead Florida to the best record in its conference, has appeared in four of the Everblades’ playoff games this postseason and gone 2-2 with a 2.47 goals-against average.

A fifth-round pick by Carolina in 2016, Helvig made his AHL debut in relief earlier this season for Charlotte, stopping seven of eight shots in 20 minutes of action.

The Checkers begin their second-round series against the Hershey Bears on Friday at Bojangles’ Coliseum.
