The Checkers added some more depth to their blue line this weekend by recalling Matt Finn from the ECHL’s Florida Everblades.

The 24-year-old Finn has missed most of this season due to injury but was activated from Florida’s IR last month and has since logged three assists in eight games for the Everblades.

Selected 35th overall by Toronto in the 2012 draft, Finn has split his first four pro seasons between the AHL and ECHL. The blueliner has 17 points (7g, 10a) in 63 career AHL games with Bridgeport and Toronto while posting 50 points (19g, 31a) in 89 ECHL games with Orlando, Missouri and Florida.

Prior to turning pro Finn starred alongside former Checker Brock McGinn with the OHL’s Guelph Storm, captaining the team to a league title in 2013-14 and earning a spot on the OHL Third All-Star Team.

The addition of Finn, along with yesterday’s signing of Zack Kamrass, gives the Checkers seven healthy options for their weekend series in Laval. Charlotte will be without blue liner Josiah Didier for the next three games as he serves a suspension, while Roland McKeown is currently on emergency recall with the Hurricanes.
