The Checkers’ training camp roster is coming together, as the Hurricanes assigned the first group of players to Charlotte today.

Forwards Clark Bishop, Erik Karlsson and Kyle Hagel, defenseman Josh Wesley and goaltender Daniel Altshuller are all headed to Charlotte's training camp, which kicks off Monday morning at Extreme Ice Center.

In addition, the Checkers have invited five players to join their camp: Matt Berry, who scored 37 points in 38 games last season for the ECHL’s Utah Grizzlies, Brant Harris, who ranked third on the Florida Everblades in goals last season, Mike Kirkpatrick, the Adirondack Thunder's leading scorer a season ago, John McCarron, a former sixth-round pick who ranked fifth on the Wheeling Nailers in scoring last season and Dalton Smith, the 34th overall pick in 2010 who spent last season in the AHL with Providence and Lehigh Valley.
