The Hurricanes have brought back one of Charlotte’s blue-line leaders in Trevor Carrick, who signed a one-year, two-way contract with the NHL club.

The 23-year-old is heading into his fifth pro season, having spent the first four with the Checkers. Carrick ranks third in franchise history in assists (103) and fifth in both games played (276) and points (134), and is the franchise leader among defensemen in goals (31), assists and points. The Ontario native has appeared in three career NHL games with the Hurricanes, including one last season.

Carrick, who was selected by Carolina in the fourth round of the 2012 draft, is coming off his best AHL season yet, having set or matched career highs in goals (11), assists (33) and points (44), totals that ranked eighth, fourth and sixth among all AHL defensemen. The blue liner also served as an alternate captain for the Checkers and picked up four helpers during the team’s Calder Cup playoff run.
