Alex Nedeljkovic
After finishing off a sweep of the Islanders to advance to the Eastern Conference Finals, the Hurricanes have assigned Alex Nedeljkovic back to Charlotte.

Nedeljkovic has been with the Canes since Petr Mrazek was sidelined with an injury in Game 2 and served as the backup for Carolina’s wins in Games 3 and 4. The 2014 second-round pick made his first NHL start during the regular season and picked up the win over Vancouver.

The netminder now returns to Charlotte where he turned in an incredible season, earning the AHL’s Top Goalie honors. Nedeljkovic started all four of Charlotte’s first-round playoff games, going 3-1 with a 2.00 goals-against average and a .923 save percentage.

The Hurricanes also assigned Jake Bean, who was up on an emergency basis, back to Charlotte shortly before Friday’s Game 4 puck drop.

The Checkers’ second-round series against Hershey continues tomorrow with Game 2 at 6 p.m.
