Ahead of Wednesday’s Game 3, the Hurricanes have recalled goalie Alex Nedeljkovic from Charlotte.

The netminder heads to Raleigh after Petr Mrazek was force to exit Sunday’s Game 2 against the Islanders with an injury. Nedeljkovic, a second-round pick in 2014, has logged two NHL games in his three pro seasons, including winning his first career start earlier this year.

Nedeljkovic is coming off of an incredible regular season for Charlotte, leading the league in wins (34) and goals-against average (2.26) and earning the Aldege “Baz” Bastien Award as the AHL’s top goalie. The 23-year-old has also started all four of the Checkers’ playoff games so far, going 3-1 with a 2.00 goals-against average and a .923 save percentage.

The Hurricanes, who hold a 2-0 lead in their second-round series against the Islanders, host New York for Game 3 on Wednesday and Game 4 on Friday. The Checkers, who eliminated the Providence Bruins over the weekend, start their second-round series against the Hershey Bears on Friday at Bojangles’ Coliseum.
