Short a defenseman preparing to head out on a road trip, the Carolina Hurricanes have recalled Trevor Carrick from Charlotte.

Through three games this season with the Checkers, Carrick has picked up a pair of assists, including one in last night’s loss to Bridgeport. The fourth-year pro is the second-highest scoring blue liner in franchise history, racking up 92 points in 206 career AHL games.

A fourth-round selection in 2012, Carrick has appeared in two NHL games, both during the 2015-16 season.

Carrick joins the Hurricanes after Trevor Van Riemsdyk suffered a concussion and will not be with Carolina for the first leg of the upcoming road trip. The Hurricanes face the Winnipeg Jets tonight.
