After signing a PTO with Charlotte at the end of November, forward Kris Newbury has officially inked an AHL contract with the club.

In his 14th pro season, Newbury became just the 37th player in AHL history to play in 800 games last week. The Ontario native ranks 39th all-time in scoring and third among active players. With Charlotte this season, Newbury has been a solid addition to the team’s bottom six, chipping in four points (3g, 1a) in 13 games.

Prior to joining the Checkers, Newbury logged 14 games on a PTO with Bakersfield, putting up five points in 14 games. The veteran began the season in the ECHL, appearing in one game with Reading.

While a PTO is a temporary, day-to-day contract, Newbury’s AHL contract now means he is signed with the team for the remainder of the season.
