The American Hockey League announced today that Checkers forward Chris Terry has been suspended three games for an elbow during Friday’s game in Grand Rapids.

Terry, the Checkers’ scoring leader and All-Star representative from last season, will miss Sunday’s game in Peoria, Wednesday’s game in Milwaukee and the Checkers’ long-awaited home opener against Chicago on Sunday, Nov. 4. Terry currently ranks tied for fifth on the team in scoring with six points and is tied for second on the team in goals with four.
Officials did not penalize Terry at the time of the incident, which flew well under the radar both during and after a game that saw the Checkers score three power-play goals during a Grand Rapids boarding major. Terry scored the shorthanded, game-winning goal and added an empty-net tally to seal the win for the Checkers, who erased a 4-1 deficit to win 6-4.
This marks the second suspension of Terry’s career, both of which resulted from games in Grand Rapids. In November of last season,
he received a two-game suspension for charging Griffins goalie Joey MacDonald.
The five total games lost due to suspension mark the only games Terry has missed during his four professional seasons. He held the longest games-played streak in the AHL prior to his previous suspension.
The Checkers have three extra forwards on their roster, with Victor Rask, Justin Soryal and Jared Staal having sat out their most recent game in Peoria on Saturday.
