CHECKERS' WEEKLY UPDATE

The Checkers are on a roll of late picking up points in four straight games in the last week (3-0-1). The top line of Michel Leveille, Tyler Doig and Andrew Carroll recorded eight points each over the four games as the Checkers overtook Florida for second place in the always-competitive South Division. Leveille notched four points (1g, 3a) including the game-winner in Wednesday’s 9-4 triumph over Gwinnett while Carroll added four of his own (2g, 2a) with a game-winner in Monday’s 6-4 victory over the Gladiators.

Jan. 13 vs. Gwinnett (W 9-4)
The Checkers broke out of a three-game slide in exciting fashion as they got goals from nine different players and downed the Gwinnett Gladiators, 9-4, on Wednesday evening. Michel Leveille led the way with a goal and three assists while Andrew Carroll, Aaron Slattengren, Tyler Doig and Matt Schepke each recorded a goal and two assists. The nine goals were the most by the team since a 10-3 victory over Wheeling on Oct. 20, 2006.

Jan. 16 @ Gwinnett (L 4-3, SO)
The Checkers took a 3-2 lead into the third period and were edged by Gwinnett, 4-3, in a shootout on Saturday evening. The Checkers and Gladiators have now combined for 27 goals in the last three games, with Charlotte earning five of a possible six points. Charlotte opened the scoring for the 20th time this season and are 13-2-5 when doing so, however Gwinnett eventually tied the game in the third and ended it in the seventh round of the shootout.

Jan. 17 vs. Kalamazoo (W 4-3, SO)
Charlotte did not disappoint the home fans as they downed the Kalamazoo Wings, 4-3, in a shootout in front of a sold-out crowd of over 6,800 at Time Warner Cable Arena. Aaron Slattengren led the way offensively for the Checkers with two goals, while Michel Leveille and Tyler Doig chipped in with two assists each. Ryan Munce stopped 36 of 39 shots for his sixth win of the season while Andrew Carroll notched the shootout game-winner.

Jan. 18 @ Gwinnett (W 6-4)
Down by two late in the second period, the Checkers scored four unanswered goals and battled their way to a 6-4 victory over Gwinnett. Andrew Carroll scored two goals, including the game-winner and added two assists. Special teams were a factor in the game as the Checkers scored three with the man advantage while Gwinnett recorded two short-handed tallies. Charlotte erased three two-goal deficits for the win and has picked up a point in four straight games (3-0-1) versus the Gladiators.

Andrew Carroll has seven goals and six assists in his last eight games…Michel Leveille (2g, 6a) and Daniel Tkaczuk (2g, 4a) are each on four-game point streaks …Tyler Doig ranks fifth in ECHL scoring with 47 points (11g, 36a) while Leveille ranks 10th with 41 points (14g, 27a)…Julien Brouillette has seven points (3g, 4a) in his last six games and ranks fourth among all ECHL defensemen with 25 points (9g, 16a)…T.J. Reynolds leads all ECHL defensemen with 151 penalty minutes, and is second in overall plus-minus with a +20 rating…Derek Couture is with Hartford (AHL) while Matt Ford and Randy Rowe are with Lake Erie (AHL)…Trevor Glass, Chris Snavely and Chris Chappell are on the 21-day injured reserve…Charlotte is 12-3-1 in its last 16 home games
