The Checkers’ annual Teddy Bear Toss was held Friday, Dec. 7 when the team played host to the Lake Erie Monsters.
Captain Brett Sutter started the toss with a second-period goal and more than 2,000 stuffed animals were collected for the kids at Presbyterian Hemby Children’s Hospital. The stuffed animals will be delivered to the hospital during the holidays.
Special thanks go out to Carolina Panthers tight end Gary Barnidge, Wells Fargo, Clear Channel Media and Entertainment and Bar Cocoa. Barnidge donated more than 100 bears to the cause, while Wells Fargo added 150 stuffed horses. Clear Channel Media and Entertainment collected stuffed animals at several local concerts leading up to the event and Bar Cocoa offered discounts to patrons who donated teddy bears.
