CHECKERS DONATE CLOTHING TO HAITI

The Checkers have once again contributed to the relief efforts in Haiti, this time by donating more than $10,000 worth of clothes to the Love A Child foundation. In March, the team, along with Cannon School of Concord, N.C., raised more than $12,000 for the victims of the devastating January earthquake.

The items of clothing included hats and short and long sleeved shirts.

"Each of the hundreds of families who receive these needed items is receiving much more than just clothes," said Love A Child assistant executive director Rad Hazelip. "New clothes restore dignity, security, a sense of belonging and most of all hope."

Love A Child is a not-for-profit organization in Haiti whose outreach programs include 13 Love A Child schools and the feeding of more than 5,000 children each day. With the help of charitable partners, the organization helps establish buildings, holds remote medical clinics and oversees many other projects to benefit the poor in Haiti.

The Checkers’ home opener is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 15 at Time Warner Cable Arena. Season tickets for the inaugural 2010-11 AHL season are now on sale and season ticket packages start as low as $10 per game. Ticket information can be obtained by calling 704-342-4-ICE or visiting www.gocheckers.com.
