RODNEY CALLED UP BY HURRICANES

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Defenseman and team captain Bryan Rodney has been recalled by the Carolina Hurricanes, the team announced today. Rodney is being recalled on emergency conditions as defenseman Jay Harrison will not travel with the Hurricanes to their upcoming games in Florida and Atlanta due to an upper-body injury.

Rodney, 26, currently leads all Charlotte blueliners with 18 points (5g, 13a) and has played in all of the team’s 28 games this season. He has 11 points (5g, 6a) in his last 12 games and scored the game-winning goal in Sunday’s 5-3 win over Hershey.

The London, Ontario native played 22 games for the Hurricanes last season, recording one goal and 10 assists (11 points). In 30 NHL games, he has one goal and 12 assists. He made his NHL debut with Carolina on Dec. 11, 2008 against the Philadelphia Flyers.

The Checkers (15-9-4) will embark on a five-game road trip beginning Friday in Providence and will return home Saturday, Jan. 1 to host the Binghamton Senators (7 p.m.) for the winter hat giveaway. Holiday 4-packs are on sale until Dec. 20 and include four games and a Checkers puck for as low as $35. Visit www.gocheckers.com or call 704-342-4423 for more information.
