CHARLOTTE, NC—The Charlotte Checkers have announced today that they have partnered with AM 1150 WAVO and AM 1410 WEGO to broadcast live games throughout the 2009-10 season.

WAVO and WEGO provide a unique adult standards music format for the Charlotte market and feature such legendary artists as Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Elvis Presley and The Beatles.  The stations provide family-oriented entertainment and have been fixtures in the Charlotte radio market for over 60 years.

“I am delighted that Charlotte Checkers games will air this season on our stations,” remarked WAVO and WEGO general manager Tom Gentry. “The Checkers provide a high level of affordable, family-oriented sports entertainment and we’re proud to be affiliated with a team which is widely acknowledged as having birthed professional hockey in the South.”

Checkers’ broadcaster Jason Shaya will host the broadcasts and deliver the play-by-play action. The first such game will be put on air Friday at 7:30 p.m. when the Checkers travel to Florida to play the Everblades.
