CHARLOTTE, NC—The Charlotte Checkers split a two-game series in Southwest Florida versus the Everblades over the weekend. Michel Leveille’s two consecutive two-goal games led the way offensively for Charlotte while goaltender Matt Zaba stopped 63 of 69 shots.
Special teams have been a factor as the Checkers have killed 22 of 23 penalties (95.7%) and have scored a power-play goal in each of their first three games. The team will now prepare for Friday’s game in Gwinnett and Sunday’s home opener, also against the Gladiators.
WEEK IN REVIEW
Oct. 23 @ Florida (L 5-3)
The Checkers fell two goals behind early in the game and managed three third-period goals but that wasn’t enough as Florida walked away with the 5-3 win. Charlotte forward Michel Leveille tallied two goals in a losing cause while former NHL goaltender Mike Morrison stopped 23 shots for the Florida victory.

Oct. 24 @ Florida (W 4-2)
Michel Leveille added two more goals, including the game-winner and Matt Zaba, with a brilliant performance, stopped 33 of 35 shots. Ethan Graham chipped in with three assists, including an assist on rookie David Marshall’s first goal as a Checker. Charlotte jumped to a 3-0 lead early in the second period and killed several third-period power plays en route to the 4-2 victory.

PLAYER NOTES:
Michel Leveille now has three consecutive multipoint games (4g, 2a) and has points on six of the Checkers’ 10 goals overall…Ethan Graham leads all Checkers blueliners and is tied for 3rd in ECHL defenseman scoring with five points (1g, 4a) in three games, including three points on the power play…defenseman Kevin Schaeffer remains on loan to Lake Erie (AHL) and second-year forward Ryan Hillier remains with Hartford (AHL).
