SIXTH ANNUAL SALUTE TO HEROES IS SATURDAY
Proceeds to benefit families of injured or fallen public service workers

The sixth annual “Salute to Heroes” game, presented by AutoTrader.com, Harris Teeter and The Pita Pit, will take place Saturday, Apr. 9 when the Checkers host the Worcester Sharks.

Proceeds from ticket sales, sponsorships and donations will benefit the families of injured and fallen public service workers as well as the Military Family Lifestyle Charitable Foundation.

Last year’s event raised more than $20,000 for the families of the Charlotte Fire Department, Mecklenburg EMS agency, Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department and Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office. More than $100,000 in gifts and cash has been raised since the event’s inception in 2005-06.

Following the Checkers game will be the annual “Salute to Heroes” hockey game in which members of CMPD and MCSO will take on CFD and MEDIC. At last season’s event, more than 3,500 spectators stayed after the Checkers game to witness a 7-1 CMPD/MCSO team win.  CFD/MEDIC, however, leads the overall series 3-2.
