The Checkers picked up 5 of a possible 6 points over the weekend with two wins over Elmira and a shootout loss at the hands of the South Carolina Stingrays. It was a great weekend for rookies as Andrew Carroll scored a goal in each of the three games, Jean-Philipp Chabot scored the game-winner on Sunday and Matt Schepke added four more points.
Nov. 13 vs Elmira (W 4-2)
Matt Schepke scored his fourth goal of the season and Julien Brouillette potted the game-winner as the Checkers beat the East Division-leading Elmira Jackals, 4-2. Charlotte jumped out to a 3-0 lead and hung on for the victory, outshooting Elmira 46-24.
Nov. 14 @ South Carolina (L 3-2, SO)
The Checkers got on the board first, Matt Schepke netted his fifth goal in five games and goaltender Miika Wiikman put aside 24 of 26 shots in a losing cause. Each team needed seven shooters in the shootout and Keith Johnson netted the eventual game winner for the Stingrays.
Nov. 15 vs. Elmira (W 6-4)
Derek Wilkinson earned his 200th win as head coach and rookie Jean-Philipp Chabot scored the game-winning goal as the Checkers defeated the Jackals, 6-4, for the second time in a row at Time Warner Cable Arena. Frank Doyle stopped 22 of 24 in his Checkers debut and Charlotte leading scorer Michel Leveille added a goal and an assist. Ex-Checkers goaltender Chris Holt stopped 16 of 22 for the Jackals in a losing effort.
PLAYER NOTES:
T.J. Reynolds and Jared Nightingale rank second (43) and third (41) in PIM, respectively, among all ECHL defensemen…Reynolds is tied for 1st among ECHL defensemen with five fighting majors…rookie forward Matt Schepke has five goals in his last six games…Michel Leveille leads the team in scoring with 13 pts (7g, 6a) in 11 games…rookie Andrew Carroll had a goal in each of his last three games and has a four-game point streak (3g, 2a)…Carroll has recorded a point in all but one game he has skated in (8gp, 4g, 4a) …Derek Couture remains on loan to Hartford, Ford remains with Lake Erie (AHL) and defenseman Ethan Graham is with Norfolk (AHL)…Ryan Munce, Trevor Glass and Randy Rowe are all on the 21-day injured reserve.
