As had been suggested by Carolina Hurricanes coach Paul Maurice and the player himself, the Checkers’ parent club recalled the 19-year-old rookie defenseman after he played in all three of Charlotte’s games this weekend.
Faulk, who made his professional debut during the Checkers’ playoff run last season, recorded two points during the three-in-three set, including his first professional goal in Saturday’s 2-1 shootout victory over Houston. He also assisted on Zach Boychuk’s power-play goal in his first AHL game of the season on Friday, and saw more ice time than any other Checkers player on Sunday.
With the Checkers assigning defenseman Ryan Donald to the ECHL’s Florida Everblades on Sunday, Faulk’s recall leaves the team with six defensemen and the roster minimum of 22 players. With another three-in-three set coming this weekend on the road in Oklahoma City, San Antonio and Houston, the Checkers may look to summon reinforcements later in the week.
