CHECKERS BLANKED BY BARONS

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – There was no shortage of scoring chances on Friday night between the Checkers and Barons, and Yann Danis outdueled Justin Peters for a 1-0 Oklahoma City win.

Danis denied plenty of point-blank chances and kept his team in the game, stopping all 31 shots on the way to his second shutout of the season and ninth of his career. It was the first time the Checkers were held scoreless this season.

At the other end, Justin Peters allowed just one goal for the second time in as many starts, since returning from injury. Jerome Samson had his seven-game point streak snapped after failing to record a point.

Barons forward and former first-round pick Gilbert Brule scored the only goal of the game, just 3:44 in, when he skated out front from the corner and beat Peters with a backhand shot.

The Checkers turned up the heat in the second frame, but Danis was there to shut the door, most notably stopping a flurry of shots during a power play midway through the period.

Though no goals were scored in the third period, both teams pressed and had several quality chances throughout the 20 minutes. Peters kept the Checkers in the game with an impressive save late in the third before Drayson Bowman was sprung on a partial break and subsequently denied by Danis.

The Checkers and Barons will meet again tomorrow in Oklahoma City at 8:05 p.m. ET
