Following their waiver claim of Andreas Nodl from the Philadelphia Flyers, the Hurricanes reassigned Checkers captain Brett Sutter to Charlotte on Tuesday evening.

Sutter, 24, played in four games with the Hurricanes during his most recent recall, recording two assists. The recall was his second four-game NHL stint of the season, having earlier recorded one assist between Oct. 18-25. In 14 games with the Checkers this season, Sutter has four points (2g, 2a), including one of the team’s two shorthanded goals.
The move gives the Checkers 14 healthy forwards, with Jared Staal having already sat out each of the past three contests. The team could elect to keep that number, as rookie Justin Shugg, originally recalled one month ago after starting the season in the ECHL, has posted three points over his last two contests and has been playing on a scoring line with Zac Dalpe and Chris Terry.
Sutter is expected to be available for the Checkers as they return to action Wednesday against the Texas Stars at Time Warner Cable Arena.
