The American Hockey League has named Derek Ryan and Trevor Carrick to its Central Division All-Star Team.

Ryan and Carrick will represent Charlotte at the 2016 AHL All-Star Classic, which begins Jan. 31 in Syracuse, NY. It marks the first career selection for both players, who will participate in the skills competition for the Western Conference on Jan. 31 and the round-robin tournament for the Central Division on Feb. 1. Ryan, 29, currently leads the Checkers and is tied for sixth in the AHL in scoring with 30 points in 32 games. Playing in his first season in North America, the Checkers captain also leads the team in goals (12), assists (18), power-play goals (4), power-play assists (8), power-play points (12) and game-winning goals (3). In the Checkers' six seasons as an AHL franchise, Ryan is one of only two players to enter the New Year among the league's top 10 scorers and his 30 points through 32 games is the most since 2010-11.

A native of Spokane, WA, Ryan signed with the Hurricanes this past offseason after spending the first four years of his pro career in Europe, including an MVP season in 2014-15 when he led the Swedish league in scoring.

Carrick, 21, leads Checkers blue liners and ranks eighth among league defensemen in scoring with 21 points. His seven goals, which equal his full 76-game total a a rookie in 2014-15 and rank third on the Checkers overall, are tied for fourth among AHL blue liners.

The Stouffville, Ontario, native was taken in the fourth round of the 2012 draft by Carolina and set several team rookie records in his first season with the Checkers in 2014-15.

Ryan and Carrick are the seventh and eighth Checkers selected to the All-Star Classic in the team's six-year history. Their selection also marks the third time that Charlotte has had multiple players named to the All-Star Team.
