The Checkers’ lineup is getting a boost heading into Game 2 of their first-round series as the Hurricanes have assigned Aleksi Saarela back to Charlotte.

The Finnish forward made his NHL debut last night in Carolina’s Game 5 loss to Washington. He know returns to Charlotte where he led the Checkers in goals during the regular season, becoming the fourth player in Charlotte franchise history to reach the 30-goal mark. The 22-year-old, who was taken in the third-round of the 2015 draft by the New York Rangers, also set career highs in assists (24) and points (54) this year for the Checkers.

After a thrilling win in Game 1 on the road, the Checkers are back in action against Providence Sunday evening for Game 2 of the best-of-five series before it shifts over to Charlotte next week.
