With his junior season over, the Checkers have added Stelio Mattheos on am amateur tryout (ATO).

The 19-year-old Mattheos has logged 278 points (127g, 151a) in 253 WHL games over four seasons with the Brandon Wheat Kings, who fell just short of making the 2019 postseason. The Manitoba native finished fourth in the WHL in goals (44) and sixth in points (96), leading Brandon in both of those categories as well as assists.

A third-round pick in 2017 by Carolina, Stelios signed an entry-level deal Thursday and will now join the Checkers as they complete their regular season and turn their sights toward a hopefully long playoff run.
