Nick Trecapelli
The Charlotte Checkers today announced that they have signed defenseman Nick Trecapelli to an amateur tryout contract.

Trecapelli, 24, joins the Checkers after completing his fourth collegiate season with his hometown University of Guelph (Ontario) last week. In four seasons with Guelph, Trecapelli posted 65 points (12g, 53a) and 104 penalty minutes in 101 games. This season, he served as team captain while tying for first on the team with a career-high 23 points, earning conference All-Star honors for the first time.

Prior to entering the Canadian university system, Trecapelli (6’2”, 215 lbs.) played three junior seasons in the Ontario Hockey League, where he recorded 21 points (3g, 18a) and 108 penalty minutes in 151 total games with Saginaw, Sudbury and Peterborough. He also played one season with Truro of the Maritime Junior Hockey League in 2011-12, where he accumulated 39 points (17g, 22a) and 70 penalty minutes in 47 contests.

Trecapelli is expected to join the Checkers in Milwaukee on Friday and be available to make his professional debut as soon as Saturday’s rematch against the Admirals. The Checkers are in the midst of a seven-game road trip leading into their next game at Bojangles’ Coliseum on Friday, April 1.
