The Charlotte Checkers have assigned rookie forward Erik Karlsson to the Florida Everblades of the ECHL.

The 21-year-old Swede has spent the entirety of his first North American season with the Checkers, recording six points (1g, 5a) in 37 games.

Karlsson, a fourth-round pick by the Hurricanes in 2012, has been in and out of the Charlotte lineup all year and has found himself as the odd man out more often than not lately, serving as a healthy extra in seven of the last 11 games.

Now, the addition of several deadline acquisitions has given the Checkers an influx of skaters heading into the final stretch of the season, so this move allows Karlsson to see more consistent ice time in Florida than if he remained in Charlotte.
