Before the Checkers take the ice this season, we’re breaking down everything fans need to know with the Bojangles Game Preview!

THE MATCHUP

The Checkers look to stay hot at home, as a sweep of the Bridgeport Islanders last weekend gives them a three-game win streak at Bojangles Coliseum. Spencer Knight will get the opportunity to pick up where he left off, having made 23 saves in the team's most recent 2-0 win last Saturday.

The Gulls, who the Checkers have not played since the 2015-16 season, have lost four straight games since opening the season with consecutive wins against Ontario.

THE STORYLINES

WISE GUY

Checkers rookie Jake Wise has points in all four games that he's played this season. After picking up an assist on opening night, Wise sat out the next three games but has come out strong with goals and points in three games since (3g, 2a). The 23-year-old Ohio State product ranks tied for sixth among AHL rookies in scoring.

KNIGHT TIME

Last week's shutout may have been his first of the season, but Knight now has four AHL shutouts over just 17 games played. The Florida Panthers' first-round draft choice in 2019, Knight now boasts a 2.04 goals-against average and .925 save percentage in four games played this season.

SOURDIF STARTS HOT

After beginning his second pro season in the NHL with Florida, Justin Sourdif has hit the ground running in his return to Charlotte. The 21-year-old has assists and points in all three games he's played for the team this season.
