Heading into their bye week, the Hurricanes have assigned Lucas Wallmark to Charlotte.

The forward was set to play for the Checkers on Friday before injuries up top led to him being recalled by Carolina. Now, after appearing in both of the Hurricanes’ contests this weekend, Wallmark is headed back to the Checkers.

Wallmark, who ranks fourth on the Checkers with 23 points in 20 contests, has only played eight games with Charlotte since Nov. 8, but has racked up 10 points in his last nine AHL games.

The addition of Wallmark is a big boost for a struggling Checkers team preparing for a busy four-game week. Carolina, meanwhile, is off until Saturday when they travel to Detroit.
