First Goal Youth Hockey Program
Registration is now open for the Carolina Hurricanes’ First Goal youth hockey program, which will hold two sessions in Charlotte – one at Extreme Ice Center in Indian Trail and another on the Checkers’ home ice at Bojangles’ Coliseum.

Both sessions provide first-time participants in hockey aged 5-9 with brand-new, head-to-toe equipment and seven on-ice instructional hockey sessions – all for just $119. Each session will run for seven consecutive Wednesdays, with the Extreme Ice Center program beginning on July 11 (5:30 p.m.) and the Bojangles’ Coliseum session starting on Sept. 12 (6 p.m.). All participants will receive a helmet, shoulder pads, elbow pads, gloves, pants, shin pads, socks, skates, a jersey, an equipment bag and a stick, plus two tickets to a Checkers game.

The First Goal program is open to first-time players who have not already participated in any other Learn to Play program, including a previous First Goal session. Previous skating experience is highly recommended but not required. Those who complete the First Goal program will receive a recommendation on advancing to another program at Extreme Ice Center.

The program, a joint initiative between the Carolina Hurricanes, the NHL and the NHL Players’ Association in conjunction with the league-wide Learn to Play program, is designed to create a fun and effective program and to reduce cost barriers for first-time participants (those who have not previously been registered to a USA Hockey or Hockey Canada sanctioned minor program).
