Throughout the 15-day program, Checkers players and staff members will contribute to 16 local non-profit organizations by volunteering time and resources and making monetary donations, among other community service acts.
Day 15
On the final day of 15 Days of Giving, the Checkers held a public skate at Extreme Ice Center to benefit Special Olympics of North Carolina. Checkers players Sean Dolan and Justin Krueger were in attendance and more than $500 was raised. Additionally, Extreme Ice Center donated the proceeds from skate rentals to athletes Rory Kinane and Katie Carter, who will be competing in the Special Olympics World Games in South Korea in early 2013.Day 14
On Day 14, Checkers players Jeremy Welsh and Rasmus Rissanen, along with a group of Checkers staff members, delivered and sorted food at Second Harvest Food Bank. More than 400 pounds of food were collected at the Checkers season ticket holder watch party Friday. Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina serves 14 counties in North Carolina by providing a regional distribution warehouse and branches that supply food and grocery items to charitable agencies, assisting people in need.Day 13

It was a Halloween party for Day 12 as a group of Checkers staff members and CheckMates stopped by Presbyterian Hemby Children’s Hospital to visit with the kids.Day 11
Alexander Youth Network provides quality professional treatment to children with serious emotional and behavioral problems. It serves approximately 3,500 children a year in more than a dozen programs and delivers an effective array of services, enabling children and their families to achieve their potential.
Day 10
On Day 10, a group of Checkers staff members and a CheckMate visited Sterling Elementary in Pineville for a clean-up of its Friendship Garden. The group dug new rows for crops, weeded and cleaned up the garden. Friendship Gardens is an expanding network of community and school gardens, which share their harvest to provide over 750 meals a day to members of our community who have limited access to healthy food.Day Nine

The Checkers hosted a watch party and food drive at Queen City Q with season ticket holders. More than 500 food items were collected for Second Harvest Food Bank and hundreds of Checkers fans enjoyed a 6-4 win over the Grand Rapids Griffins.Day Six
On Day 6 of “15 Days of Giving”, a group of Checkers’ employees visited Supportive Community Housing to serve breakfast to the residents of the shelter.Day Five
For Day 5 of “15 Days of Giving,” the Checkers hosted their 11th annual Charity Golf Classic at Pine Island Country Club. The event, which allowed golfers the opportunity to spend an entire day with Checkers players and staff, raised money for Presbyterian Hemby Children’s Hospital and Discovery Place.Day Four
On Day 4 of “15 Days of Giving,” six Checkers players and several staff members volunteered their time at two local charities. At Ronald McDonald House of Charlotte, Nicolas Blanchard, Bobby Sanguinetti, Brett Sutter and Chris Terry joined Checkers staff members Alice and Danielle to cook dinner for residents of the house.Meanwhile, across town, forward A.J. Jenks, goaltender Justin Peters and Checkers staff member Elle visited a local Boys and Girls Club to read to the kids and demonstrate the use of the club’s hockey equipment.

On Day 1 of “15 Days of Giving,” presented by Lowe’s, the Checkers held a charity cornhole tournament at The Gin Mill on South Tryon St. to benefit Sidekicks Mentoring. Sidekicks is a local non-profit organization which pairs young professional mentors with high school students.For Day 2 on Sunday, a group of Checkers staff members and CheckMates will visit Aldersgate Retirement Community to read to the residents and help with arts and crafts.
